Andy Murray : Underdog Not Any More

Men’s final of Sony Open was between two underachievers world no. 3 Andy Murray and world no. 5 David Ferrer. It was expected that Andy Murray has better chance of winning the title as David Ferrer has never defeated Murray on Hard court. After winning the US open and Olympic Gold medal Murray has overcome from the tag of Underdog and became a serious contender for any championship he participates in. Winning of Grand slam has made him mentally more strong, boosted his confidence which is needed for this level and that can be easily seen through his performances.

The match started in good fashion for David Ferrer and won the first set in no time with the score of 6-2 in his favor. So from the beginning he had the control over the match. The dominance of the Ferrer over Murray is quite visible in score line. In 2nd set the story changed completely in the favor of the Murray. The British started the game well and finished it up with the score line of 6-4. With this set win the game get into the 3rd and decisive set to choose the champion.

In 3rd set it was more competitive and close encounter as both were trying to outplay each other to win the title. Ferrer who never won a single match against the Murray on Hard Court looked quite convincing to win the match as well as Title and was leading 5-4. Ferrer was one point away from that win but he lost it 7-6. In the set that went for tie breaker to decide the Champion, Ferrer looked quite tired and that’s where Murray scored the match and title by winning the set 7-6.

Andy Murray not only won the match with 2-6,6-4,7-6 but also assured 2nd rank in world for himself ahead of  the great Roger Federer. It was a final that tested the real skill set of Andy Murray. Andy Murray is no more an Underdog and he is definitely eying for the peak position of Rank 1 in world. This match can be considered as best final of the year
