It was 3rd ODI between Sri Lanka and Champions Trophy winners 2013 India in ongoing Trination cricket series. Team India got a huge blow before the match as their skipper MS Dhoni ruled out of series due to injury. In the absence of Dhoni, vice captain Virat Kohli got the charge of the team. Both teams had lost their respective matches against the West Indies. So, loss in this match will make it very hard for them to be in the finals of the cricket series.
Venue: Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica.
Toss: Virat Kohli won the toss & decided to field first. Sri Lankan skipper would have bowled too as the moisture eases out in the second innings. Team India included M Vijay in place of the injured Dhoni and Shami Ahmed in place of B Kumar while Sri Lanka brings in K Parera and S Senanayke in place of Ajantha and Jeevan Mendis.
Sri Lanka Batting
Sri Lankan team started their inning with M Jayawardene and U tharanga and they played cautiously for the first 10 overs. They scored 47 runs in the mandatory power play without losing a single wicket. Pitched looked quite flat and no moisture in the pitch also. Sri Lanka completed their 50 in 11th over and 100 in the 22nd over. In between Jayawardene completed his half century of just 60 balls. Jayawardene was playing with a bit aggression while tharanga was the quiet one. Tharanga also completed his half century in 76 balls with the help of 5 boundaries.

After scoring the half century Jayawardene started scoring freely and used class and innovation at best to reach the team score150 in 30th over while the score of 200 runs in 38th over. While taking the single for teams 200 runs Jayawardene also completed his century in 107 balls. Jayawardene before getting out of Ashwin at the individual score of 107, put on an opening partnership of 213 with U Tharanga. Skipper Mathews came at the loss of first wicket and Sri Lanka managed to score 47 runs and lost only one wicket of Jayawardene in the 2nd power play.
Tharanga also scored century of 124 balls with the help of 11 boundaries. Just after scoring his century Tharanga went after the Indian bowling thrashing them all around the park. Angelo Mathews played a good supportive role scoring 44 of just 29 deliveries. Upul Tharanga remained unbeaten on the score of 174 hitting 19 boundaries and 3 Sixes. Sri Lanka scored 180 runs in last 16 overs of their allotted 50 overs and put on a score of 348 losing only a wicket of M Jayawardene. It was simply bad day for Indian bowlers in the office as they went all around the park, gave away 23 extras and also bad day for the fielders as they dropped too many catches. So, first session was completely in the favor of Sri Lanka.
India Batting
Chasing the huge total of 349, India started very badly and lost R Sharma on the score of 12 in 5th over of inning. M Vijay came in at 3rd position to accompany Shikhar Dhawan . Both of them started playing very cautiously and India could score only 28 runs in their 10 overs mandatory power play and completed 50 runs in the 14th over. India lost opener Dhawan and next batsman Kohli in 15th and 16th over respectively on team score 52 and 57. At the score of 57/3, D Karthik came to the crease to accompany M vijay.
In 19th over Vijay got out scoring just 24 runs and team score was 65. Departure of Vijay, made the arrival of Suresh Raina. Karthick and Raina added 53 runs together before Kartick got out at the score of 118 scoring 22 runs. That made the arrival of Ravindra Jadeja to the ground to carry the inning with Suresh Raina. But the falling of wicket remained continue and team India bundled at the score of 187 in the 45th over.
Jadeja remained unbeaten on the score 49 and was also the highest scorer in India inning. Just like their batting Sri Lanka fielded and bowled also well. India never looked like chasing the target of 349. Herath picked up 3wickets while Senanayke and Malinga got 2 wickets each and 1 wicket each for the Kulasekra and Mathews. So, path to the finals for team India gets very difficult.
Opener Upul Tharanga was awarded Man of the Match award for his unbeaten innings of 174.
