Wimbledon is the oldest tennis tournament and also the most prestigious tournament in tennis world. It is only grand slam which is played on the grass court while others like French Open is played on clay court, US open and Australian open are played on hard court. It is also a five set match for the Gentleman’s while three set match for the ladies. Wimbledon which is the third grand slam of the tennis calendar year is going to kick start from the 24th June in London.
Roger Federer & Serena Williams 2012 Wimbledon Champions |
As you know it very well that, Roger Federer has won the Wimbledon tournament for record 7 times and he is also the defending champion. He has a golden opportunity to have one more Wimbledon in his kitty as grass court is his favorite court. If Federer wins the Wimbledon, he will equal the record of 8 win of a single grand slam made by the Rafael Nadal this year. But for that he is going to face stiff competition from the other five of top six players in ATP rankings.
Rafael Nadal became the only player in Tennis history to win single grand slam French Open for 8 or more times. But, Nadal hasn’t shown the same flair with which he plays at the clay court on other courts and same can be said for currently ranked number one Novak Djokovick who seems more comfortable on hard court than on grass. Andy Murray who is making his comeback from injury in Wimbledon is also the runner up of last time and he is also a contender for the title. David Ferrer looked quite brilliant in the French open, but he is yet to win a grand slam. So, the competition is going to be very much in between the current Wimbledon champion Federer, last year’s runner up Andy Murray, world no. 1 Novak Djokovick and the "King of Clay" Rafael Nadal. There are couples of other players like Tsonga and Berdych who will try to make a mark at the Wimbledon.
In Ladies section, it looks like as if Serena is going to win each and every tournament she participates in. This season has been terrific for her as she has already won the French open title and many WTA tournaments. The kind of domination she displayed in French open, it will really tough task for her competitors to stop her. Whether its Maria Sharapova or Victoria Azarenka or Li Na they will have to bring in something extra special to stop this powerhouse. The way she has treated Sharapova in the finals it looks like its impossible for anyone to stop her.

If you look at the last 10 years winners list, the list is well dominated by Swiss legend Roger Federer in men’s circuit while in womens same has been done by the Williams sisters. After the withdrawal of Venus Williams from the Wimbledon, Serena is the hot favorite for the title. Roger Federer will be looking for his 8th grand slam and in total for his 18th Grand Slam while the Serena Williams will be looking for her 6th Wimbledon and in total 17th career grand slam.
After looking at the current form and years performance I put my money on Novak Djocovick for Gentleman’s title and Serena Williams for Ladies title. Do you King of Clay Nadal has a chance at the Wimbledon ? Who is your favorite for Wimbledon title in both Ladies and Gentleman's ?
Serena Williams. k
